Quick answer: if the high coolant temperature or low oil pressure warning comes on, stop somewhere safe straight away. The engine, brake system, transmission and (on SHS hybrids) high-voltage system lights mean contact a dealer immediately. Most other lights mean a system needs checking soon or are just telling you something is switched on.

This guide groups the lights by the action the official Jaecoo 7 owner's manual tells you to take (section 2-2, “Operation/Malfunction Indicator”, from page 25 of the J7 manual). We don't reproduce the symbols, so match them against the pictures in your manual or on the instrument cluster message.

Lights at start-up are normal. When you switch on, many lights come on briefly as a self-check. Only a light that stays on or flashes after starting needs attention.

Engine light on a 2025 Jaecoo 7? Check the recall

The DVSA lists recall R/2026/069 (March 2026) for the 2025 Jaecoo 7 petrol: an engine ECU wiring harness clip may not be fully engaged, which can bring on the engine light and cause stalling. Over 7,000 cars are affected. A second recall, R/2026/299 (August 2026), covers 174 J7 petrol and plug-in hybrid cars built between September 2025 and January 2026 whose driver's seat wiring may be routed wrongly. That fault can also bring on warning lights. Full details are in our Jaecoo recalls guide.

Frequently asked questions

What does the engine management light mean on a Jaecoo 7?

It means the engine system has a fault. The owner's manual says to contact an authorised service centre immediately. On 2025 petrol J7s, check recall R/2026/069 on the gov.uk recall checker, as a loose ECU harness clip can bring the light on.

Is it safe to drive with a warning light on?

It depends on the light. Stop as soon as it is safe for high coolant temperature or low oil pressure. For brake, engine, transmission or high-voltage faults, contact a dealer immediately. Lights such as ABS or parking brake faults mean drive slowly to a dealer.

Why do lots of lights come on when I start my Jaecoo?

That is a normal self-check. Lights that go out after start-up are fine; only a light that stays on or flashes after starting needs attention.

What does the flashing ESP light mean?

A flashing ESP light means the stability system is working, for example on a slippery road. If it stays on steadily, it indicates an ESP fault that needs checking.

What is the PPF light on a Jaecoo 7?

PPF is the petrol particulate filter. The light means it is full; the manual says to drive at a higher speed so it can clean itself.
