I was driving my Jaecoo J5 EV on the freeway at approximately 110 km/h in heavy traffic. My infant grandson was in a capsule in the back seat. He began crying, and I briefly glanced back to check that he was safe. I then looked forward again and briefly glanced at an approaching freeway exit sign.
Immediately after these normal driving actions, the vehicle activated the hazard lights and cut propulsion to nearly zero. I attempted to accelerate because a truck was approaching rapidly from behind, but the vehicle only surged briefly and then cut power again. The car continued in a pulsing acceleration/limp mode, limiting speed to approximately 40 km/h while still on the freeway.
My attention was split between:
maintaining control of the vehicle
monitoring the main display to understand the fault
avoiding the truck approaching from behind
With traffic closing in and the vehicle unable to accelerate, I took the upcoming exit ramp to avoid a collision.
Once on the ramp, I realised the Driver Monitoring System had triggered the event. I looked straight ahead for several seconds, and the system reset, returning the vehicle to normal operation.
I was very frightened and Had to stop in the emergency lane for a while as I was feeling sick. I Love the car and am not trying to cause trouble.
